Art Courses
Studio Art (1 credit) 8-12
This course is designed as a multi-level art class for students wishing to pursue upper level art courses as well as for those who wish to satisfy their Fine Arts requirements for graduation. In the first quarter, students investigate a variety of creative assignments based on concrete themes and modified choice while learning about the elements of design, art history, art analysis and criticism. The student will practice technical skills, find original solutions to problems and develop visual means of communication. As the artist, the student will explore media of their choice to work with in class. In the second quarter, students will apply the elements of design to the principles of design while furthering their creativity, technical skill, knowledge in artistic behavior, and exploring more abstract themes thought choice projects. By the end of the course students will be creating choice based art in their medium of choice learning the full function of a working art studio.
Ceramics (1 credit) 9-12
Pre-requisite: C or better in Studio Art
May be repeated with Teacher approval.

Explore three-dimensional art making through clay. Students will experience both hand-built and wheel thrown techniques. Multiple means of formation, technique, and surface decoration will be covered. Art history, criticism, and aesthetics will be explored. Assignments could include functional bowls, cups, teapots, serving trays, cookie jars, bottles, vases, whistles, tiles, non-functional ware, mixing clay and glazes, and learning firing processes.
